BBQ Season Guide: Getting the Most from Your Outdoor Grill

BBQ Season Guide: Getting the Most from Your Outdoor Grill

There's nothing quite like the smell of a BBQ on a warm summer evening. Whether you're a seasoned pitmaster or firing up the grill for the first time, a quality outdoor grill can take your cooking to the next level. Here's how to make the most of your BBQ season.

1. Set Up in the Right Spot

Position your grill on a stable, flat surface away from fences, overhanging trees, and your home. Good airflow is essential for even cooking and safety. If you have a BBQ gazebo, it provides excellent shelter from unexpected British showers while keeping the smoke ventilated.

2. Preheat Properly

Always preheat your grill before cooking. For charcoal grills, wait until the coals are glowing white-hot before placing food on the grate. For gas grills, allow 10–15 minutes of preheating. This ensures even cooking and helps prevent food from sticking.

3. Master the Two-Zone Method

Create two heat zones on your grill — one side for direct high heat (searing) and one for indirect lower heat (slow cooking). This gives you much more control, especially for thicker cuts of meat like steaks, whole chickens, or ribs.

4. Keep It Clean

A clean grill is a happy grill. Brush the grates before and after each use to remove residue. Regularly empty ash catchers and clean the interior to prevent flare-ups and extend the life of your grill.

5. Invest in the Right Accessories

Long-handled tongs, a meat thermometer, and a good grill brush are essentials. A cover to protect your grill from the elements when not in use will also significantly extend its lifespan.
